Homemade Laundry Soap (Detergent),

22 to 44 loads
use 1 or 2 Tbsp per load of laundry
low sudsing, often no suds at all

2.5 ounces (about 70 grams OR 1 cup, 1/2 a bar) soap (I used Linda Brand laundry bar from the grocery store, but Fels Naptha, Sunlight bars, or castille soap will all work. Even Ivory soap will work)
1 cup borax
1 cup washing soda (NOT baking soda – these are different things)

Grate the soap on the coarse side of a grater, or cut the bar in pieces and pulse in a food processor. (Just a warning here that I've heard horror stories from people who broke the bowl on their processors because the soap pieces were too big.)

In the bowl of the food processor, add in the Borax and the Washing Soda, and allow to blend for a minute or so.

Store in a container – I use an old coffee can, but a quart jar will work, or even a ziploc bag will work. Use 1Tbsp per load for a regular load of laundry, 2 tbsp for a heavily soiled load of laundry.

The Cost Breakdown:
Linda Brand Laundry Bar – $0.99 for 9.5 oz bar ($0.28 per batch)
Washing Soda – $5.79 3kg box (6 1/2 lbs) ($0.48 per batch)
Borax – $5.49 2kg box (4 1/2 lbs) ($0.69 per batch)
Batch Cost: $1.45 for 22 to 44 loads of laundry

Cost per load: $0.07 (if using 2Tbsp per load), $0.03 (if using 1Tbsp)
