Apparently I have a hard time resisting the grocery store! Here's 2 more of my grocery bills, although both are somewhat of a stock up trip. Chicken breasts were on sale for $2.99lb (skinless, boneless), and 3lbs of Parkay Margarine were on sale for $2.99. I know, I know, you don't have to tell me that skin on, bone in chicken breasts are cheaper, and if I debone and skin them, I can make soup. I've done that. Now I'm lazy. And in this case, these chicken breasts were the same price as the skin on bone in kind.
The margarine was a good buy, because I usually pay $1.27lb for No Name cooking margarine. This works out to $1lb AND it comes over-packaged in little 1/2 cup squares. Wonderful stuff.
My sister took a trip to the U.S. today to go shopping, and I couldn't believe the prices over there!! $1.49lb for butter! A gallon of milk for less than $2.00! I can't wait to go check it out on Sunday - I'm hoping to find some good deals on powdered milk.
All right, enough procrastinating - on to my grocery bills. This keeps me honest, and aware of what I spend, that's for sure.
Grocery Bills - March 24, 2009
3lb box Parkay margarine squares x2
canned corn x2, canned creamed corn x2, canned pureed tomatoes x1 (these were all on sale, at 59 cents for the canned veggies, and 79 cents for the tomatoes)
1lb butter x2 ($2.97 lb)
Frozen Michelina things x3 - they were 99 cents, and when I'm lazy or sleep in, I can bring one of these for lunch. It's cheaper than eating out
Lunch meat - black forest ham, $1.00 per 100grams - this is shaved really thin, and I manage to get quite a few lunches for the boys from this
Ranch dressing, no name - special request from the boys, $1.47
Green pepper, one at 95 cents
English Cucumber, 1 at $1.27 (this was bad of me - I already have one in the fridge)
One loaf whole wheat bread at $1.47
Tortilla chips, plain, plus jar of salsa (my lunch)
Dish detergent, toilet paper, paper towels
Total bill: $40.27
March 26/08
4 packages of boneless, skinless chicken breasts on sale for $2.99lb - $16.63
1 green cabbage - 99 cents
More tortilla chips
Princess canned pasta (really - how could I resist it? It's Princess pasta!)
Total bill: $19.92 (it was $21.00, but I used my $1.08 coupon from my gas receipt)
Total of both trips: $60.19
Add that to the other day: $61.37 + $60.19 = $121.56
So far so good. I still have about $100 left in my grocery budget for the month BUT I was well stocked coming into March. April will probably need some pantry stocking again, and I will probably need a case of Coke before March is out.
What are you doing buying tomatoes and salsa??? Don't we can a bunch in the fall--tastes way better than the grocery store stuff too.

I know, I know! But Noah likes the pureed tomatoes better than the home canned ones. The salsa is because I was REALLY hungry, and $1 salsa plus $2.49 chips (that I would also send with my kids for lunch the next day) sounded better than McD's or fast food.
I thought about it.
